Autolite 2100 Carburetor (3)

Autolite 2100 with the Air Distribution Plate

The use of the air distribution plate is kinda puzzling, as it seems to block and restrict airflow. As seen above, it blocks about 25% of the main venturi and the outlets for accelerator pumped fuel. In theory the use of the plate would richen the mixture, enabling better throttle response by sacrificing gas mileage and top end horsepower (less airflow).
Autolite 2100 without the Air Distribution Plate

I became curious so I drove my Mach I around with and without the air distribution plate. Although I couldn't measure a significant difference in gas mileage (0.5 mpg difference, perhaps), there was a noticeable difference in throttle response, especially during low/medium speed accelerations. For more detailed information on the Autolite 2100 carb, you should consult the Ford Factory Shop Manual for the year of your car, as I have not found useful information elsewhere, yet.
