This photo was taken 4/4/1937. The Black horse with the two white stocks and blaze, is Toby my grandfathers sulky horse, the ribbons round his neck were won at the 1932 Sydney Royal. When my grandparents went to visit my great grandmother who lived in the Megalong Valley, they used to tuck my mum and her brothers in blankets underneath the seat and start at 3am in the morning and arrive around 9am having travelled from Bankstown.  So you see endurance riding and harness events only copy what was the norm in my mothers day. A horse then was expected to perform what we now think exceptional, the truth is a good horse in fit condition should be able to travell 100 miles in 12 to 13 hours with ease.
