| Aeneas 1978 Tom Quilty 160km Ride. 13th Place, the first of his five Quiltys without a vet out. George taught me you can hide a 1,000 sins under a load of fat. A good horse has nothing you need to hide. It seems unfortunate many Judge's seem to call in the 5or 7 fattest before conformation gets to be assessed and the rest gone back out the gate if they are in fit working condition. The judge saying "I can only judge them on the day." and they wonder why numbers are dropping? But at least they say they cant judge them without the fat and you have a reason you can understand.. Better than the cattle judge at one Sydney Royal who explained for 3 hours the winner had "a more sirey outlook than 2nd". 2nd 'Had a more sirey outllok than 3rd" and so on. Wondered how he'd go with the cows? No better, Winner "had more maternal qualities than 2nd" Never did find out what constituted either "outlook or maternal qualities he was looking for. Waited a bit longer to see if anyone would lynch him but all there were too well mannered. By the mutterings it was contemplated. |

| Aeneas and Sandra winning the Penrith Show Ironwoman race by a 1/2 mile margin. To quote the commentator "Sandra and Aeneas First, the rest where? Won again the next year by a 1/4 mile margin, Aeneas was 27. At his first start in this race at 25 came 5th. Notice the incredible height from the ground during the moment of suspension of the gallop. |

NATIONAL POINTSCORE, 2nd RIDER (pointscore), 2nd DISTANCE RIDER. 2nd HORSE (pointscore), 4th DISTANCE HORSE. 2nd ONE HORSE/ONE RIDER (pointscore) The NSW POINTSCORE they finished.1ST RIDER, 2ND DISTANCE RIDER (km) 1ST HORSE (pointscore). 2ND DISTANCE HORSE. 2ND ONE HORSE/ONE RIDER (km). That same year his sons HOLLYWOOD BASCOMBE ridden by Robyn Lindsay was 3RD NATIONAL LIGHTWEIGHT. 1ST NSW LIGHTWEIGHT (points). STEPTOE ridden by Allan Thiele were 9TH NSW HEAVYWEIGHT (points). 1983 Pokolbin twilight 80km Ride. AENEAS 4th Open, Steptoe 1st Heavyweight, HOLLYWOOD BASCOMBE 2nd Lightweight. The only year a sire and his progeny all finished in the top 5 of the same ride. Nor at National and State Level in the same year since Endurance started. |
