"Our story goes something like this..."

Sometime in 2001, guitar player Cesar Rivera was looking for other musicians to play with after his last band dissolved. By looking through America Online profiles and searching for other El Paso musicians, he happened upon guitarist/vocalist Adriana Cantu. After a few exchanges, they decided to meet at Barnes and Noble bookstore and found they had enough common interest in music to start a band. Amanda Escontrias was brought on board to play drums, but left shortly after Adriana and Cesar let go of the original bass player.

In July 2001, bass player and vocalist Mark Miranda was trying to put a band together. Nevaeh, a gothic-industrial group that he was with didn't seem to be going anywhere, and playing with other soldiers that he was stationed with in El Paso was simply not going to work. He replied to an email sent by Adriana who was searching for a replacement bass player. Mark, Cesar and Adriana put together a set of workable cover songs, but lost Amanda due to school priorities.

Mark contacted drummer Rene Trejo, who he'd associated with briefly while trying to put a band together that summer. Rene played in other bands, but found time to play with us and soon began to be a driving force behind the band's progress. The chemistry of the newly-formed band worked well enough that we even had ambitions to do more than just play cover songs; we started writing our own.

In May 2002 we worked with Norman Matthew of the band Lylah to put together a collection of demos called "Hurts to Know." This release was distributed at our shows throughout the year.

Most of 2003 was spent on a semi-hiatus as Mark was deployed with the Army to Operation Iraqi Freedom. Chris from Rene's band [Five Stars Red] was tapped to fill in temporarily on bass.

Now reunited, we continue to meld different musical influences, and developing our musical identity is a work in progress. Fall 2003, MindBroken entered the studio to work on their second collection of songs titled "Rubicon" with Charlie Garcia at his FunHouse studio. Featuring some of their best work to date, the project sees Adriana taking on the bulk of vocals and song arrangement which has resulted in further streamlining the group's sound.

Shortly after recording music for a Fall 2004 release, Rene parted ways with Mindbroken to dedicated more time to his role as guitarist for His Shotgun Proposal, a hardcore band also based in El Paso. Drummer Angel Figueroa is the most recent addition to MindBroken, and is currently rehearsing with the band to become familiar with the material in preparation for live shows.

As time goes on, we'll look at our music today and then be able to see how far we've come. It promises to be a strange and interesting ride...
