Gourry
"Dumber than dirt".. "Dumber than a sack of hammers".."Yogurt brain".."Brains of a jellyfish".. and just plain "idiot!". These are all terms I've heard to describe Gourry in the series, but like Xellos, I believe there may be more to him than meets the eye. Maybe he's not as stupid as they say. However, what he lacks in intelligence, he more than makes up for in good looks, charm (well.not always..), and skill with a sword, in this case, the legendary sword of light. He is the most skilled swordsman on the show (although Zangalus and Zel-sama are pretty high on the list), and because of him and his sword, a piece of Shabranigdo (or..if you look at it from Gourry's perspective.. Shab-rah-bingo) was destroyed. (Ok...maybe Lina and the Giga Slave helped a bit)
Gourry has all the women after him... Um..maybe just Syphiel and Martina..but..He should have women after him. He's like a cute, stupid little puppy you just wanna cuddle and hug and kiss and keep him forever and ever and --*blinks* Aheh... <.<; -_-;; *clears throat* Speaking of romance..him and Lina. We all saw how he reacted to Lina's "death" in season one.. And I saw a picture where they're just about to kiss and you just know him and Lina will end up romantically..They have to!! it wouldn't be fair for him to end up with Syphiel.. But that may be Gourry's thing. Although not smart... his heart is in the right place.
Another thing to mention is Gourry's great-great-great(great-great?) grandfather, Raudy Gabriev, who appears in the first Slayers motion picture. You know it's Gourry's ancestor, because of three reasons. 1) The last name. Gabriev. It's him. 2)The sword of light. Raudy uses it to slay the big scary thingie. And, 3) Lina tries to get the sword of light away from Raudy, just as she does with Gourry. Yet, Raudy isn't mentioned at all in the series, because the people who did the movie and the series? Two different companies. Anyhoo.. Lina tries convincing Gourry that he merely "forgot" that he'd promised her the sword of light..but even dear Gourry isn't dumb enough to fall for that...
In the Dubbed version, Gourry's voice is done by one of my other favorite voice actors, Eric Stuart, (who you might recognize from Pokemon - He does both James and Brock). In the Sub-titled version, his voice is done by Matsumoto.
