Nick Carter Can Live without His Cash

World Entertainment News Network--BACKSTREET BOY NICK CARTER enjoys all of the fame and success being in the heart-throb boy band has brought him - though he's not in it for the money. The SHAPE OF MY HEART star insists he's so uninterested in the trappings of fame that he wouldn't miss his lifestyle if he lost it all tomorrow. He says, "I'm not like these people in this business. I don't care about the glamour and the glitz. I just care about living and having fun. "I don't care about my money. It could all go away tomorrow, and I could still be happy because I don't need much to survive."

Getting To Know KRYSTAL!

According to the dictionary, a diva is an operatic prima donna. While the term does apply to most of today's female singers, there's one that's about to step into the spotlight that is an exception to the rule. Ladies and gentlemen, meet Krystal. The raven haired singer is about to take the world by storm, with the help of the recent release of her debut album and her self proclaimed best friend, her piano.

A singer fairly new to the scene, Krystal has gathered an outstanding fan base all her own. "The coolest thing about my fans is just how awesome they are," Krystal says with pride, "it's like they take your music as serious as you take it . The things that you're saying, they get, and they connect, and with them, it's like a team. We can really change the world together." It seems as though Krystal has already accomplished part of that goal, with the numerous fan sites devoted to the singer, the fans all stating Krystal has changed their lives for the better, citing her as their inspiration.

The main inspiration Krystal states is none other than her mother. "My biggest inspiration since I was a little kid was my mom," Krystal says with emotion, "she got me through the years ,she trained me and continued to tell me "Krystal, you just be yourself, develop your own style, do your own thing." and that just totally changed my life..thanks mom!"

The 19 year old used music as a window of relief during what is often the hardest time of a teen's life: high school. "Basically, I was very involved in band, I played flute, first chair--yay me," Krystal says with a laugh, " I played drums as well, and was also very involved in show choir, which is this HUGE deal where I'm from, it's like the entertainment industry for my town! We'd wear these big puffy sequined dresses, dancing and singing, and win trophies for it, and travel..it was good preparation and practice, and it's what got me through high school."

Of course, no girl escapes her teen years without the feeling of butterflies in the stomach, the resident first crush. "My first crush was this guy that I used to go to church with..his name was Drew Dawson..hi Drew if you see this!" Krystal says with a grin, "I had it bad man...I had it for 3 or 4 years..and even to this day when I see him, I'm like 'Wow dude I had a crush on you forever!' He was cute, 5'4" perfect height..man, i'm ashamed! Sorry Drew!" (Author's note:As if Drew would have a problem with a successful female singer having him as the object of her affection. The Author thinks not.)

When times get tough, Krystal uses one line of advice she swears by: " Don't think you are, know you are,' Krystal explains, " I'll never forget that, I live by that, it's like a bible verse, it's perfect!" (Think you'd heard the phrase before? It comes from "The Matrix," Krystal's favorite movie.)" I wish I could be a superhero in a movie! That movie is so cool to me on so many levels!"

As the interview at the Interscope offices comes to an end, Krystal sends a message to a special group of people: those that doubted her. Leaning closer into the camera, Krystal says with a wide grin, "God bless you all. I loved you all then, and I love you even more now."

Backstreet Boys On Course To Continue Tour As Planned

As A.J. McLean continues treatment for alcoholism, depression and anxiety, the Backstreet Boys are on course to resume their tour as planned on August 24 in Milwaukee, the group's spokesperson said.

On August 4, McLean left the rehabilitation center where he had been staying since early July, and moved to a "transitional care" facility in Los Angeles, according to the Backstreet Boys' publicists.

When BSB first announced McLean's problems, they said they would resume their tour August 7. On July 31, however, the group said that A.J. would need two extra weeks of treatment, pushing the resumption of the tour back to August 24 (see "A.J. Needs More Time, Backstreet Boys Delay Return").

"We truly want to thank our fans for standing with us through this," Nick Carter said in a press release at the time. "And we know that it will be worth the wait for them to see the five of us back onstage."

How Coal Got Its Glow Back - Kevin's Response

Dear JWR Friends:

This is just to keep you in the loop on Kevin's efforts. He wanted to respond to the NY Times Magazine article on "How Coal Got Its Glow Back" -- the article that we sent out last week regarding mountaintop removal mining.

As a native of Kentucky I was glad that Jeff Goodell's article "How Coal Got Its Glow Back" (July 22, 2001) finally exposed the rest of the country to the business of mechanized coal extraction and its devastating impact on the people and land of the mid-South. While at home in Kentucky, I too had the opportunity to fly over mountaintop removal mine sites and witness firsthand the massive transformation of forests and mountains and streams into a wasteland.

As our government debates a national energy policy for our country, they need to remember that coal is not really the "cheap" source of energy proponents claim. Right now coal is cheaper than other energy sources because the mining companies are allowed to rip off mountain tops, fill valleys and clog watersheds with dirt, and dump toxic soups of acids, heavy metals and sludge in huge lakes. Right now electricity from coal is cheap because old power plants get to ignore clean air laws that others must abide by.

There's no question coal will continue to play a vital role in our country's energy needs for the future. Let's just make sure coal companies play by the same set of environmental rules. If their free ride were to disappear and the corporations that mine coal and burn it to light our homes had to cover the actual costs of their business, including the clean up and disposal of their waste products and true restoration of the lands they exploit, maybe we'd discover that coal is not such a bargain after all. Maybe then we'd make more than a token effort at exploring more renewable sources of energy.

I think we'd discover that they're the real bargains because they'll not only help us to grow and thrive as a country but do so while protecting the land, water and air for our kids.
