| The story is as follows, Richie toured here in 1998 here is Australia by the way. So about 8 of my mates all went to the concerts. There was a competition here to play in a guitar clinic with Richie. So I went and begged to the radio station for me to win, and you know what? I did. As well as my mate also named Troy. Nothing like a bit of persuasion!! So, we and 3 other guys, 5 all together went to the Hard Rock Cafe in Sydney and awaited Richie. He arrived got introduced to all of us, and actually remembered Troy and I from the day before. He came over and they said "this is Troy" he says "Hey, I know you guys." COOL!! So the first thing was a draw for a Fender acoustic guitar, out of the 5 guys there, my name was pulled out. NO WAY!!! I went over to Richie he shook my hand, said well done and signed it for me "To Troy, Keep Pickin' Richie Sambora 98" I said thankyou about 18,000 times and went to put the guitar away. Then someone from the Hard Rock comes over and says would you mind if Richie used your guitar for the clinic. Were they kidding, I went over to Richie, gave him the guitar and said "You can use this man." He said "Thanx man" We started to play. "what do you wanna play" he says "Whatever" I said, he goes OK. So we played "Wanted", "Lay Your Hands on me", "In it for love" He chatted for a bit to us about stuff, we had a laugh and they said, that's it guys, Richie will sign stuff for ya now. So I firstly went and got my guitar off him and he said thanx again, shook my hand and I asked him for his pick he used, he said No probs. Then we lined up, I got him to sign my Fender Richie Sambora Signature series guitar, he liked that! Then I said to him, "Would you mind signing my ankle so I can get it tattooed over?" He looked at me funny and said "Ah OK." So he signed it, and said "But don't do it." I said "Of course I'm gonna!" He's all like "Dont do it man you're gonna regret it, I've got tattoos I regret and my wifes got tattoos she regrets, so really man don't do it. "I'm like "Man, I wont regret it." He's kinda bummed out, and goes off to have lunch with 5 of his guys, publicists and stuff, sees me packing up my guitar, gets up from his lunch and comes over to me. Shakes my hand again and said "Really man, don't do it", I said "Richie, I've been a fan for 12 years, you are my GOD, this is the best day of my life, and I'm gonna do it." He's like "Man, that's so cool, but don't do it." I said "I'm gonna and I'll show you in Melbourne." He said "OK". He walks off shaking his head. I get the tattoo done, the tattooist thinx it's the funniest thing ever. We get to Melbourne to do the 2 concerts down there. We hear he's gonna be at MMM a radio station, so 5 of us including my mate Troy go there. He arrives and gets out, Troy says "He got the tattoo done" Richie says "Let me see" I show him, I actually have a photo of him looking at my tattoo!! He taps me on the back and says "Man, you're a kook." Walks off shaking his head. That night at the gig, front row, he almost hit me in the head with his headstock 50 odd times I was that close!! The next day was the last of the tour, so we were front row again at the gig, he was calling out to us for songs, and playing them. So cool. After the concert, 3 of us went back to the hotel where he was staying. We talked to his band, they were cool and like "You guys have been everywhere!." Then Richie arrived with his manager, she comes rushing straight over to me and says "I have got to see this tattoo" I show her and she says "I can't believe you got it done, we were all talking about it on the plane, going I wonder if he got it done, I wonder if he got it done and Richie's like I'm telling him not to do it. That is so cool!" I said, "Huge fan you know, it was the best!!" She was great! Richie was talking to someone so I waited until he finished and walked over to him. He said "You're crazy for getting that tattoo." I said "Nah man, that was the coolest" He then hugged me and said "That is the biggest honour anyone has ever done for me." How cool is that!! I said thanx for the tour and left. THEN!! A couple of months pass and someone tells me about a Richie interview in Kerrang. Someone (a girl I know actually) asked Richie what the weirdest request was he'd ever had from a fan. His answer "I just had this guy in Australia who got me to sign his ankle and got it tattooed, I told him he'd regret it in 5 years when some girl goes Who the F#@% is Richie Sambora in the throes of passion." So not only did he remember me, he mentioned me in an interview. So, Yes, it was real, he is the nicest guy I've ever met and I hope one day again to show him my tattoo and see what he says, cause everyday I look at it and think, that was the greatest day of my life!! YAY FOR THAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
