| PHYSICAL THERAPY MODEMS 2 This is a continuation of PHYSICAL THERAPY MODEMS. In PTM1, I illustrated exercises and machines that I believe can be used by people with little or no use of their legs or lower body to compensate by developing the strength in their upper bodies. |

| Another important area for upper-body strength development is the shoulder area. Of all shoulder exercises that can be done by someone with little or no use of his legs, this is probably the easiest. Others, such as pressing exercises, require the person to lift the handles above his head, and rowing exercises, require pulling the handles in. Here, on the LATERAL RAISE it is only necessary to place lower part of the arms on the pads and raise the pads. This develops the trapezoid and neck muscles. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

This an AVENGER PULL DOWN machine that strengthens the upper-back, or latissimus dorsi (lats). This can be done by a younger person with little or no use of his lower-body. Notice the holder on top of the young man's knees so that he is not pulled up as he pulls down. It is part of Gracefitness' Avenger Series. http://www.medxonline.com/Avenger/Avenger_sld029.htm |

Another feature of the Avenger Pull Down machine is the AVENGER PULL DOWN GRIPS that can be adjusted for either a narrow grip or a wide grip. http://www.medxonline.com/Avenger/Avenger_sld030.htm |

| Probably the most appealing strength-building exercises and machines are those designed for pressing up. To the left are two more exercise machines that can be used by a younger person to develop upper-body strength. As you can see, the young man is able to do upward pressing exercises without standing. It is possible that great strength in these upper-body areas can be greatly enhanced by these types of machines. As with the previous Avenger machines, the weights can be placed on the holders by an trainer or assistant. The CHEST PRESS develops strength in the chest http://www.medxonline.com/Avenger/Avenger_sld017.htm The SHOULDER PRESS develops strength in the shoulders. Pressing, in general, also strengthens the triceps. http://ww.medxonline.com/Avenger/Avenger_sld026.htm |
