In PTM1/2/3, I showed a variety of exercise machines that I believe that people with limited or no use of their lower bodies could use as therapy to strengthen their upper bodies. Here, in PTM4, I am demonstrating exercises for the arms and some leg exercise machines that people with some use of their legs can use.

The exerise machines, pictured above may require a little more effort on the person's part than the bicep and tricep machines I showed, previously, in PTM3. They would be more difficult for older people but can still be used by those younger. The Arm Curl (above left) requires more down extension before curling the handles to the chest. For a fuller view go to http://www.advmax.com/6002.htm or click on ARM CURL The young lady, in the adjoining pictures, is using a Tricep/Pullover Combo. It serves two purposes: to develop the triceps to balance out the biceps development, and as a pullover for further chest development as well as for rib cage expansion.. As a tricep exercise, she holds the handle with her elbows at her side and pulls it down using only her forearms. As a pullover, she would hold the handle above her head and pull it down. For a full view of both go to http://www.advmax.com/6002.htm or click on TRICEP/PULLOVER COMBO

After a routine with bench presses and rowing, a good exercise is the Pec Deck. It is good for expanding the chest in that it allows air to get into the lungs after a press/row combo. It is a good idea to do a light weight for this purpose. For a full view go to http://www.advmax.com/6010.htm or click on PEC DECK

A very good exercise machine for further pressing strength is the Multi Press Combo that allows one to do presses from three different levels: lower incline and raised incline for the chest and shoulders, and straight up shoulder press for the shoulders. The same bench, here, can be adjusted to accommodate all levels. For a full view go to http://www.advmax.com/6009.htm or click MULTI PRESS COMBO

As I have pointed out previously, exercises for the upper back, or latissimus (lat) muscles are necessary to balance out chest exercises. The most common of these exercises are rowing (pulling). This young man is using a Pullover in which he rests his forearms on the pad that is on the handle in front of him. He pushes down with his forearms after extending his arms above his head: he does not push down with his hands. They are only for holding. Along with his upper back, he develops his rib cage since the movement is from over his head down to his knees. For a full view go to http://www.advmax.com/2000.htm or click PULLOVER
PHYSICAL THERAPY MODEMS 5 has exercise machines that can be used by people with some use of their lower bodies.
