Chi no Ryu
 

In 1999, the world will end. Not entirely correct from the point of view of the Seven Angels. If you asked them they would reply that humanity will face its end... and the world shall be reborn, free from the destruction caused by mankind. The Dragons of Earth intend to make sure that this happens. They will destroy the kekkai barriers protecting Tokyo. Humanity will die, but the Earth shall recover from its wounds, no longer abused by those with a thirst for power, no longer defiled by a race which has no compassion for that which cannot defend itself. The Angels are the protectors of the Earth and will do whatever is necessary to save it. If the destruction of humanity is the prize to be paid they will not hesitate.

In the beginning there were Seven Seals, Seven Angels and a boy named Kamui, with the power to decide which side would win the final battle. The boy had to choose: he could become a Dragon of Earth... or a Dragon of Heaven. The boy chose Heaven, but found out that destiny was not yet decided. His best friend was discovered to be his twin star, fated to join the group he opposed. The friend, Fuuma, became the Dark Kamui of the Dragons of Earth. The two groups were now even, and the fate of the world depends on their actions. The Seals protect the kekkai, hoping to give humanity a chance to redeem itself. The Angels break the kekkai, hoping to give the Earth a chance to survive.

The Dragons of Earth are not as close knit as their opponents, and it could be said that their cause is not such a priority to them. Some of them do not actively participate in the breaking of kekkai, some lack principles, some seem to be taking part merely for their own amusement. Despite this they are making considerable progress. Why? Well, there seems to be a greater willingness to use their powers on the Angels' side. They do not worry about civilians getting hurt. And those Angels who are active seem to have more power than the Seals. Dark Kamui never hesitates to use Kamui's unresolved feelings for him against the boy, making him incapable of any real opposition. Seishirou and Subaru are in a similar situation, but the former has the upper hand even more clearly because of his greater experience and the sakura's upport. Satsuki is capable of taking on two Seals at the same time with little or no damage to herself. This seems to balance the sides, considering that all Seals are active, while some of the Angels take little to no action against them.
 

Yatouji Satsuki

Satsuki is one of the first Dragons of Earth encountered. Before Kamui makes his decision Satsuki acts mainly as an information gatherer for her side, tracking Kamui's movements, as well as those of people suspected to be involved in the end of the world. Later she takes an active role in breaking kekkai, going to battle inside BEAST, the supercomputer she has built.

Satsuki's power lies in her mind. She is an absolute genius, with a superhuman intelligence. She can design and build computers beyond the imagination of most scientists. Her BEAST seems to be capable of thought and emotion, so it could be said that Satsuki has created the world's first AI. It is said that computers love her, and in the case of BEAST that is true. Satsuki can access virtually every computer in the world and manipulate what she finds.

Satsuki's personality has been twisted by her intelligence. Who knows what she might have been like under different circumstances, but as it is, she sees herself as a superior being, who doesn't have to worry about the fate of others. She has no compassion for people below her intellectual level - everyone else. Only computers can hold her interest for long. Human emotions are strange to her, and despite her intelligence she can have a hard time comprehending decisions based on them.

Satsuki's age is often listed as fourteen, but I believe that to be incorrect. It is accurate as far as the sidestory is concerned, but the story is set before the main X timeline. She looks clearly younger in the story and her situation in life is different. We don't see Satsuki in a school uniform during X. And no CLAMP schoolgirls that I've seen have had Satsuki's figure at that age.
