On May 2, 2001, Jeremy and I began our 14.5 hour flight across the Pacific Ocean to begin our fun in Sydney. The plane ride was long, but we made it. We stayed at the Mercure Hotel Lawson City which is just a short walk from the edge of Darling Harbour. During our stay in Sydney, Jeremy and I visited the Sydney Opera House, the Royal Botanical Gardens, the Chinese Gardens, the Taronga Zoo and Darling Harbour. I enjoyed the night life every night that we were in Sydney. How was the food you might wonder? Nothing to write to mom about. The Australian menu is now being influenced by all those who have emigrated to their country: Chinese, Japanese, Greek, Italian and Indian. These combinations make for an interesting meal. I was able to meet up with a friend from home which was fun. She gave us some ideas of places to visit and others to stay away from. (This helped save us from shelling out unnecessary money.) We met up with some people she knew from Ireland and New Zealand which led to an eventful night of too much to drink and lots of laughter. On the third day that we were in Sydney, Jeremy and I got caught in a downpour. The sky turned green like right before a tornado. We ended up running back to our hotel room after being completely drenched by the rain. We chilled for a while and then headed out to a nearby pub for the evening.
Our next stop: to Cairns in the north. |
