II. OTHER HEALTH HABITS
Minimizing Cell Phone Use

I used a cell phone for 2 years and 2 months prior to my diagnosis.
I used it 200 to 400 minutes per month.
While I may never know what the cause of my brain cancer was,
I have learned that cell phone use may be harmful.

The tumor developed on the right side of my brain.
I am right handed and used to hold the phone up to the right side of my head.

If you are curious about the subject,
do an internet search on brain tumors and cell phones.
I think you will find that there is "PhDs and MDs" on both sides of the fence;
Some will say don't worry.
Others will say that the radiation emitted from these phones is dangerous,
especially in that close proximity to the brain.
And that more testing is necessary and
that mobile phone technology is moving very quickly and
we still don't have a good understanding of the long term effects.

This gets into the larger issue of EMFs...
Electro Magnetic Fields / Radiation
and how much the human body can tolerate.

So to be on the safe side,
I stopped using mine shortly after my diagnosis.
I have decided only to use mine in case of emergency.
For me, it was no big sacrifice to give it up.
Looking back to when I had the phone,
I'd say 80% of the calls I made or received were unnecessary.

Avoidance of Microwaved Foods

In modern society we love the convenice of our microwave ovens and how much time they save us.
But I have become suspicious of the possible hazzards of microwaves.

I read an article that discussed the fact that breast milk should never be reheated in microwaves and fed to infants.  It should be heated conventionally in a pan of water.  The problem is that microwaves destroy the anti-bodies and vitamins and other "goodies" in breast milk which are so beneficial to babies.

The author went on to hypothesize that the efffects of microwaves
on regular food for kids and grown-ups may not be good either.

The problem exists at a molecuar level.  To heat things as quickly as they do, microwaves violently shake the molecules of the food.  This can result in bonds being damaged or changed.
Ultimately our bodies are made up of cells.
These cells must be able to recognize good stuff like oxygen and nutrients and let them in,
while keeping out bad stuff.  If the molecules are altered, there may be mistakes.
I'm not a molecular biologist, but the theory made sense to me, the way the author explained it.

if I can find the article again, I'll provide a link to it.
