III. OTHER BENEFICIAL SUPPLEMENTS
I am going to repeat and emphasize
my use of Flax Oil
because I feel it was probably the
most helpful supplement that I took . . . .
Cottage Cheese and Flax Oil
Put 2 super heaping tablespoons
(about one  level cup)
of cottage cheese into a bowl
add 2 tablesoons of fresh flax oil
mix well and eat.

While I was still diagnosed with stage 3 brain cancer I was trying to take 2 servings a day for a total of 4 tablespoons.

Since all my good MRIs,
I take one serving
daily for "maintenance".
It's very important that the flax oil be fresh !
The bottle should show an expiration date
and be kept refrigerated.

Flax oil capsules are NOT an acceptable
substitute because the potency is way insufficient
because of the lack of freshness.
My Flax Oil brand is Barleans  . . . . .

I started taking shark cartilage about 3 months after my surgery.

Some people in natural medicine believe that Sharks almost never get cancer and have surmised that there is cancer fighting properties in shark cartilage (such as in the fins).

One theory is that shark cartilage decreases the proliferation of new blood vessels.  A cancer tumor must create lots of new blood vessels to grow.  So if the shark cartilage can slow down or prevent that proliferation of blood vessels, the cancer will die.

It sounds like a plausible theory to me so I started taking shark cartilage as "one more helpful thing".

I purposely waited 3 months after surgery to start taking it.  My thinking was that after surgery there was a need for new blood vessel growth to repair all the trauma that had gone on in my scalp, skull and brain from surgery.  (My arms too, from the IV needles!)

I started out taking the shark cartilage in pill form:  about 5 to 10 pills a day with water on an empty stomach.

Later I switched to taking a powered form of shark cartilage.  I would mix the powder (about one tablespoon) in a glass of water.  This tasted very bad !  It was definitely the worst tasting of all the supplements I took.  There has to be a more palatable way to take the powder than the way I did it.  The pills on the other hand were tasteless and easy for me to take.  I really don't know if there is a difference in potency or effectiveness between pills and powder.

There is supposedly supplements that distill the shark cartilage down to a more potent grade.  Very expensive.  It's delivered packed in dry ice.  We looked into it but never bought any.

My brand of shark cartilage is Lane Labs - "Benefin".
Coral Calcium and Mineral Supplements

There is a lot of buzz going on about the benefits of coral calcium.  There is a school of thinking in holistic medicine / nutrition that the pH or acidity of the body is a very significant factor in one's health and longevity.

That theory says if you keep your body's pH on the alkaline (aka "basic") side, you will be much healthier.

Therefore while I was treating my cancer and now that I am well,
I take coral calcium and other mineral supplements to try to raise my pH.

The pH scale is 0 to 14 with low numbers indicating acid and high numbers indicating alkaline and 7 being neutral. There is litmus paper you can get to test the pH of your saliva or urine.
Mine tend to be on the acid side but I still make a conscious effort to get my body alkaline.

I'm not sure, but I think my understanding is that sugar consumption tends to increase the acidity of the body, so cutting out sugar also helps one "alkanalize".
