| This tree was once very plentiful (making up about 25% of the Eastern U.S. forest). It grew tall and big and provided useful lumber and timbers and fruit. Tragically it has been virtually wiped out by a "super-blight" starting in the early 1900s. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
