Hello, I am Mike. These logo's represent my two main interests, the one on the left - very appropriately - is my membership of the Labour Party. I was a Labour Member of Sheffield City Council for 16 years until May 2000 and will be seeking re-election in 2002. During my time on the City Council my responsibilities, in the main, were in the Urban Planning and Cultural fields.
I am still the City Council's representative on the Yorkshire Museums Council, which I Chair and from which I am a Member of the Yorkshire Regional Cultural Consortium. My interests are museums - I am the Chairman of the National Committee of Area Museums Councils and a Member of the British Museums Association National Council; and politics. I also like reading, going to the theatre, music and walking, especially the hills and moors around Sheffield.
I am a Trustee of the National Museum of Labour History in Manchester - see link on page 6 - and a founder Trustee of the Ken Hawley Tool Collection Trust as well as holding a number of other positions. The Ken Hawley Trust owns the very unique collection of hand tools, measuring instruments etc collected by Ken Hawley over the last 50 years, some of them centuries old. There are well over 100,000 items in the collection and, we believe, no other collection of hand tools as comprehensive exists in the world. |
