The journey was all about roads. I urge you to drive these ones (and put up with the boring bits inbetween). Presented for your delectation in strict chronological order:
1: The Estrada Luminosa.
From Paranagua to Curitiba - Brazil as it used to be. Hell, this was Europe as it used to be too. Life before tarmac, no traffic, stop and smell those trees...
2: Southeast of Curitiba
A great stretch of hills rippling down towards the ocean. Downhill all the way - it feels good even if you have an engine.
3: Southern Uruguay
The roads were beautiful further north - in fact all over the country - but the stretch above Maldonado was so beautiful there was a signpost warning drivers of impending beauty!
4: Avenida del Libertador in Buenos Aires How many lanes??
5: Ruta Tres
It would be churlish to pick out one stretch (especially as there are so few distinguishing features. But that's the attraction).
6: West of Sarmiento
On the long haul towards the Andes, the lonely hills were so... lonely.
7: Los Alerces National Park There's a reason why this is a National Park...
8: The main road through the Lake District
... minutes later. Back on tarmac but perfect biking turf, if you see what I mean.
9: The road to Corcovado
Being the Corcovado tunnel high (very high) in the Andes, joining (or is that separating?) Chile and Argentina.
10: The road to Corcovado
Being the Corcovado that rises high (very high) over Rio de Janeiro.
