| Hi! My name is Mike Murphy, bass guitarist. I've been playing since 1974, playing any kind of gig I can. Much of my time has been spent playing classic and progressive rock (my favorite), but I enjoy playing many other styles as I get the opportunity, like big band jazz (I play string bass too), jazz-rock fusion, even country and metal, too. I've also done some broadway- style musicals (I read) like "Man Of LaMancha", "Music Man", "Oklahoma", "The Sound Of Music", and several others. Also various back-up bands for singers and shows. I always have a great time playing Christian praise and worship, and many Sunday mornings you can find me on the platform at the front of my church (Berean Bible Fellowship Church), playing with the worship team, sometimes even on 12-string guitar instead of bass (I played guitar for 4 years before switching to bass). I've spent lots of time in the recording studio, and I have been doing session work for a new worship resource company called Arts Guild. I've also played at scads of weddings and parties (which is the only way guys like me can make any money playing). My main gig is with a great outfit called the Time Machine Band. It's an 16-piece band full of very talented musicians that are really nice people, to boot. They also do a ton of work, which makes it the kind of opportunity guys like me are always on the lookout for. It meant saying good-bye to a few other bands and projects I've been involved with because of how busy Time Machine is, but some opportunities you just can't say no to. You'll find us all over the NY/NJ metro area pretty much every weekend, at weddings, banquets, bar mitzvahs, whatever. I'm playing a lot and getting paid well to so it, and that's a good thing! I don't do as many pickup and sub jobs as I used to, but I do it whenever I can. So if you need a sub or somebody for a one-nighter, drop me a line. If I'm open, I'm there! |
