| Air Filter Change | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Here is the one item that makes the difference between Inspection I and II. This is probably one of the easiest and least time consuming job to do. This should only take 5 minutes to do. If your still messing around with it after 10 minutes, STOP (your probably doing something wrong). I usually change this filter at about 40,000 miles (about Inspection II time). It is pretty dirty at this time. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| First, open up the hood and find your air filter box. In the case of this 1999 E36 it is pointed out by the red arrows. |

| Same place in the 1999 M Coupe. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||

| The airbox is more or less the same in most BMW's. Next, you have to release the cassette that holds the air filter. To do this, you just have to push in the 2 clips (where the red arrows are pointing at) while pulling the cassette up. Now the cassette should slide out and you should see your filter. |

| Pull the cassette all the way out and pop out the filter. Discard the old filter and put in your new filter. You can also pick or vacuum out the debris inside the airbox. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||

| Now just put the cassette, plus filter, back into the airbox until it clicks in. Your all done. It's that easy. Now drive and enjoy your BMW. |
