Boswellia (Boswellia serrata) is a moderate to large branching tree generally found in dry, hilly areas of India. When the tree trunk is tapped, a gummy oleoresin is exuded. This oleoresin has been the source of the traditional Ayurvedic herbal preparation Salai guggal. The gum oleoresin contains pentacyclic terpenoids known as boswellic acids. Studies have shown that boswellic acids are selective inhibitors of 5-lipoxygenase, leading to de-creased production of leukotrienes.* Boswellia extract has not been associated with disrupting glycosaminoglycan synthesis or with gastric irritation.* The Boswellia extract used in Arthri-Norm TM provides the highest concentration of boswellic acids available.
Other ingredients included in Arthri-NormTM to promote optimal joint and connective tissue structure and function are vitamin C, vitamin E, and boron. Vitamin C is an essential nutrient in the synthesis of articular cartilage and other connective tissue.* It has been shown to increase cartilage synthesis and add a protective effect against cartilage damage.* Vitamin C also provides important antioxidant support in the body.
Vitamin E supplementation has been proven to improve joint function in scientific studies.*� While the exact mechanism of action is unclear, many feel that the proven antiradical actions of vitamin E may provide one explanation of its benefits.
Boron is a trace element most commonly associated with increasing serum 17 b-estradiol
and testosterone and calcium and magnesium metabolism. Epidemiological evidence and

Contraindications, adverse reactions, or interactions
