The Drive Home
Lateral Puzzle
Two brothers live in the same apartment
complex, work for the same company, and own the same company convertible car.
Each night for the entire summer they both drive home around the same time with
the top down and wind blowing, using the same route home. However, by the end
of the summer, the other brother realized that he spent slightly more on gas
than the other. One day, they decided to car pool, the brother who spent less
on gas did the driving. The other brother finally realized why. What was the reason?
Answer:
When the one brother jumped into the other brother's car, he noticed that all of his dashboard accessories were not working.
When you consider all the internal lights and stereo system, they will put an extra drain on the car battery. The alternator will require
additional gas usage to recover the use of any electrical system within a car.

Lateral Puzzle
A man encounters a shady individual while on his way home from work. He tells the

wants to make a quick profit from it now.
The man, being gullible, shells out the money being asked for the bag of loot. When
he open the bag he finds it is full of diamonds, rubies, pearls, emeralds and

fortune he had in making such a great purchase. His friend, being a rather
smart person, opens the bag to examine the jewels.....within 10 seconds he
announces that the man has been ripped off.
How did he know?
Hint 1:
A specific jewel gave it away.

The pearl is the easiest test to determine if it is a fake.
By placing the pearl in your mouth, you can feel the texture of it on your tongue. A real pearl will have a
gritty and sandy feel to it. An imitation will be completely smooth.

A Paragraph To Puzzle Over
Can you determine the strange pattern this paragraph follows?
I dislike paragraph puzzles; I really do. Because solving them is impossible for me. So, the only choice I have is creating my very own. There is something odd here. This sentence, including the many others, follows some small rule. Writing like this over long periods is very difficult. Maybe I have said enough and made this one too easy, but then only time will tell.
Answer:
It is an alternating pattern of words containing and not containing the letter E.

Anagram-Definition Pyramid
The clues and answers work as a pyramid to get the one final answer.
The first clue is complete and has a one-word answer.
This answer is then used as an anagram to fill in the missing letters
to the second clue, and this pattern follows all the way to the final answer,
which is a word or phrase.
All clues given throughout have spaces indicating that it either separates a new
word in the definition, or one word has missing letters the above anagram fits
into.
Example, if the clues were :
1) to jump or hop
2) x m e
The answer to 1) would be "leap", and the
final answer 2) would be "example", which is leap anagrammed into "x m e".

Simple Encryption
A scientist made a startling breakthrough in his experiment. Needing to go home for the night, he could not
write down his results because for the past month he has suspected the janitor
is a spy for a rival lab.
Knowing the janitor is not very bright, but that he can get into just about anything, the scientist decided to disguise his
findings with a message.
After leaving though, he felt his message would still be understood by the dimwitted janitor and left a voice mail for
one of his assistants on shift later that night to put a simple encoding on his
message that he could easily decode the next day. Unfortunately, he had 4
assistants on shift that night, and each one independently encoded the previous
assistant's encryption with yet another simple encryption.
Luckily all the encryptions were easy and the scientist was able to recover his
findings after some work.

At Your Convenience
Lateral Puzzle
I was at the beach for vacation where they were celebrating Irish Weekend. An event
took place 3 years ago during this same weekend. As a result, the past two
years people witnessed something that had never been done before.
Answer:
The event that took place was a food fight. It occurred inside a WAWA store at the end
of the night as all the drunk people flooded the place once the bars began to close. As a result
WAWA has closed their doors during the evening of this event each year to prevent this from happening again.
Until that time, the store had remained open 24-7 all year long.

The Passing Lane
A math problem....
You are driving in the left lane of a two lane highway using cruise control set at
70 mph. A car comes up behind you and wants to pass. Being lazy and not wanting
to use your feet, you vow not to switch lanes until there is enough distance
between two cars in the right lane which will allow you to switch lanes and let
the car pass...and then return to the left lane without turning off your cruise
control. What is the minimum distance (in feet) needed between two cars in the
right lane for you to accomplish this...assuming the following:
a) a car and it's buffer zone between the front and back is 15 feet in length.
b) the car passing you accelerates at 5 mph/second and will not go above 80
mph. (also the car will have slowed down to 70 mph impatiently waiting for you
to switch lanes)
c) it takes you 2 seconds to completely switch lanes which is a distance of 10
feet.
d) cars in the right lane are all traveling at 55 mph.

Steam, Or Not To Steam
Lateral Puzzle
Two young brothers, Bobby and Ricky, wake up and both need to use the shower in
order to start the day. Bobby wins a coin toss and gets to use it first. Ricky,
however, says he needs to go to the bathroom, but promises to be out quick and
still let Bobby shower first. Ricky takes a couple minutes, then exits as
promised to let Bobby shower. Bobby takes very long showers, and before long
Ricky is pounding on the door for him to hurry up. After a while, he pounds
again saying the same thing.
Bobby finally finishes and gets out of the shower. Grabbing his towel he notices something strange. There are 2 mirrors
and one is completely fogged up. The second mirror has almost no steam on it.
It has a message written on it saying ‘Hurry Up next time!’ The strangest thing
is that the message is written as the fogged up part of the mirror while the
rest is clear. Bobby checks the bathroom door and it is still locked. Did Ricky
sneak in, and even if he did, Bobby wonders, how he would have done this?
Answer:
The message was written by Ricky while he was in the bathroom. Soap is a surfactant and will lower
the surface tension of water. If soap is rubbed onto a mirror, then steam will not fog it up since the tiny
bubbles of water cannot hold their shape when condensing on it.
To write the message in reverse fog, Ricky needed to take soap and cover the entire mirror. Then, he would
have taken a wet rag and removed soap from the mirror in the shape of the letters needed for his message.
Now during a hot shower, water can condense and fog up the part of the mirror where the letters were traced.
