| History We are strictly a benevolent group. Our group was founded June 17,2005 as H.O.M.E. Four of the members reorganized as Midsouth Equality on February 27, 2006. Our board of directors consists of Latrici Rhodes as President, Shuria Holmes as Vice-President, Tiryese Dunn as Treasurer, Tammy Gaddy as Secretary & Marion Beacon as Member-At-Large. Two more positions of Members-At-Large are currently vacant. We do not condone discrimination. Therefore, we will not discriminate against age, race, gender, religion or sexual preference. Although we cater to the LGBTQQI community, we will not deny anyone interested in becoming a member, participating in various volunteer activities, promoting unity, or protesting against issues that are present in our community. Mission It is our mission to establish a better present and future for our LGBTQQI community in the Mid-South. We will venture to propose a plethora of diverse LGBTQQI friendly alliances to aid us in the struggle opposed to the social stigma that our society as bestowed against us due to discrimination. Our organization is dedicated to prompt a sense of well-being, growth and unification between the homosexual and heterosexual communities through the following methods: ~ Provide a voice on gay and lesbian issues. ~ Enhance public awareness through innovative education and communication strategies. ~ Work to advance equality based on sexual orientation, gender expression & identity to ensure that gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender Americans can be open, honest and safe at home, work and in the community. ~ Organize and sponsor community events to increase public understanding of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender citizens.
