 When new or curious seekers hear "Book of Shadows" for the first time, usually the first words out of their mouths are "What is it?". Sounds like some dark tomb from the Middle Ages, doesn't it? Actually, it's not dark at all. A Book of Shadows is more spiritual than anything else, and is, more often than not, kept hidden from public view because it is a very personal book; personal in the way that some individuals would keep a diary. You wouldn't want the whole world reading your personal diary, would you? Witches feel the same way about their Book of Shadows. In my opinion, a Book of Shadows is not meant to be placed on the internet. However, after giving it much thought, I've decided to add this section to A Witch's World anyway. I hope to help others to get a feel for what a Book of Shadows is used for. You will find suggestions on how to put one together, and even a few possible items that might be enclosed between its covers. If you are looking to be enlightened with secrets of the Craft, you won't find any of that here. Sorry. There is a certain code of honor that goes with being a member of the Craft, and sometimes reading the words is not always enough. In many cases, it is the experience behind the words that holds all the meaning, and if you haven't had that proper training and experience, then the words aren't going to do you any good. What you will find in this Book of Shadows are concepts that are generally, universally accepted among Wiccans. Information that is shared more for gaining an understanding of the Craft, rather than giving away years of study and research in one fell swoop. Please keep in mind that this Book of Shadows, along with the rest of A Witch's World, is based on one Witch's personal experience and study, and will not reflect the opinions of the entire Pagan population. Beliefs and opinions will vary with different traditions. As with all Craft study, it is important to keep an open mind, and draw your own conclusions as to whether any given piece of information works for you or not.
