5th Grade is a busy time at Midland. The kids are in the pre-teen stage. There is nervousness about going to Twin Peaks, but the pride of being the oldest at Midland. The end of year events happen fast. It takes many parents to make the events special. The events in 5th grade depend on the parents and teachers who support it. In the past Midland has had:

Carnival - 5th grade has run candy booth in past and usually a few game booths. There is rumor of helping with the haunted house in 2007...Mr. Anella would be your contact. 5th Grade slide show put together by parents (from Kindergarten to 5th. Pool Party - Held at end of year at the Poway Community Pool. Safety Patrol outings (Movie, Rock climbing, bowling, safety patrol camp in the summer) Band - 2 concerts - one before Christmas during the day and one near the end of school with an evening performance. Coordinated by Jack Erb. 5th Grade Recognition (sometimes called promotion). This is a ceremony at the end of the year that parents/teachers plan. In the past it has been held at Old Poway park. In June, 2006 the tradition changed to hold it in the amphitheater of the school. It is a nice occasion where the children dress up and celebrate the transition to middle school.
