John Dawson & Mary Mote
John Nelson Dawson was born 1823 in OH possibly to  Thomas Dawson and Dianna Carpenter. About 1845 in Indiana  he married Mary A. Mote who was born February 1830 in OH.   John and Mary can be found on the 1860 Census in Mineral Twp, Barton Co., MO, and in the 1870 Census in E. Lark, Barton Co., MO.
Both John and Mary met untimely deaths.  The following articles explain:

DIED - THE YEAR 1878:

At his home in Ozark   township, Barton county, Missouri, on Monday, September 16, inst., Mr. John N. Dawson,  aged 55 years. Mr. Dawson was one of the oldest and most respected citizens of our county.     As many of our readers are aware he come to his death in consequence of a painful and somewhat peculiar accident. Last Friday while engaged in grinding sugar cane with a span   of young wild horses, his team took fright from some cause and began to run at full speed.     Mr. Dawson was knocked down by the lever and thrown against the machine. His are was  caught between the cylinders of the crusher and literally ground to a jelly from the  finger's ends to the elbow. Hi reached the house after the accident with great difficulty,  strewing the path with fragments of the mangled arm, and medical assistance was at once sent for, but the doctor who first arrived could neither amputate the arm nor do anything  else to relieve the patient. Dr. Dye had to be sent for all the way from  Lamar. By   the time he arrived, nearly twenty hours had elapsed and Mr.  Dawson had become so  weakened from loss of blood and suffering  as to make his recovery under any  circumstance, extremely doubtful. His arm was amputated, but in consequence of the subsequent gross
mismanagement of the local physician who had first been called in and   who took charge of the sufferer after amputation had been performed, hemorrhage again set in, accompanied by other disturbing circumstances  and death speedily followed.     During the three days that intervened between the time of receiving his injuries and his  death, in spite of the frightful character of his wounds and his intense sufferings, he  exhibited a degree of fortitude and resignation rarely witnessed. No word or complaint, no   expression of repining escaped his lips, but constantly expressing his submission to the  will of Him that doeth all things well, and his reliance on the promise of salvation and eternal life in the world to come, he died as he had lived, a sincere Christian and a     striking example of the blessings and joys known only to those whose faith is well founded and whose works have always been in strict accord with the principles of Divine   inspiration. Mr. Dawsonwas a member of the United Baptist Church, a good neighbor, a kind  husband and father and one of the most highly respected members of the community in which  he lived. He had resided in this county ever since the year 1856 and but for the untimely  accident which as hurried him into the presence of the Great Judge of all, might have  enjoyed many more years of usefulness on earth. He leaves a widow and five children to mourn his loss, who, however have the hearty sympathy of sorrowing friends in their bereavement, and the satisfaction of feeling that he who was so dear to them is gone to a  better and a happier land, where sickness and pain shall be unknown and death shall visit us no more.
Mary died December 3, 1906:
