Based on the novel of the same name by the renowned Carl Sagan. Tense and rewarding. The film industry needs more of these intelligent science fiction films as opposed to the likes of Lost in Space, Starship Troopers and Species. I knew at once that Jodie Foster's rare show of over-acting would not earn her an Oscar, and probably not even a nomination. I was correct on both counts, although the Golden Globes gave her a nom. However, that's not to say that her performance was not good, and with a brilliant support cast this film reinforces Zemeckis's position in Hollywood. Zemeckis had said that he probably wouldn't ever top Forrest Gump. Well, Contact, just three years after Gump, comes frighteningly close, and to some critics probably overrides Gump.
