Action factor: Aliens is better than Alien.
Suspense factor: Alien is better than Aliens.
Directing: Ridley Scott is incredible at creating suspense and shock waves when he wants to. However, about one-quarter of the film is a little slow.
Acting: Acting doesn't play that big a part when there is a totally hostile and extremely powerful creature on board. On the whole, the cast in Alien is very good.
Writing: I wonder what would have happened if Scott was allowed to use the alternate ending. Read the 'trivia' of Alien at IMDb if you want to find out what it was.
