August 1999: We begin the process!! We apply to a local agency for our Home Study as the Home Study must be done by an agency in your home state. We chose Adoptions from the Heart to do our Home Study (see their link on the links page). The adoption agency may or may not be the same agency - that is strictly your choice. We chose an adoption agency in Denver, CO called CCAI (Chinese Children Adoption International -- see link to their website on the left). |

Our application for the Home Study agency was accepted and we were sent a packet of documents to fill out - questionnaires about our childhood, our marriage, our careers, etc., plus we had to write an autobiography (they had an outline to go by). They also sent us financial forms, criminal records check forms, and medical clearance forms. |

Early September 1999: We had to send a form to the State of PA (where we live) for a Police Records Clearance and a form to the State of PA to clear us of any child abuse records. These were sent Sept 15. We work on our questionnaires and autobiographies during this time. Our wocial worker calls us and schedules our first Home Study interview (the first of three) for 9/28. |

Late September 1999: We have our first interview with the Social Worker. We think it went pretty well. She is a very nice woman and is very easy to talk to. We had completed our questionnaires and autobiographies and the financial forms so turned them in today. We are still waiting for the police and child abuse clearances to come back. She said it usually takes about 2-3 weeks so they should be back (hopefully!) by next week sometime. |

Our appt with our family doctor for the medical clearances is scheduled for Monday, 10/4. Our next interview with the Social Worker is scheduled for 10/5. |

We also completed the application for CCAI and just need the medical forms to send that off. At that point, we actually start working on the adoption itself and all of the INS and Chinese goverment requirements. |

So that's the story so far. I want to put it all in a book for my daughter so she will someday know how much we wanted and waited for her! |
