June 6, 2000: Referrals have slowed down and what we hoped would be a July referral looks like it may now be August or even September. I thought we might be traveling by September, but it's more likely to be October or November before we get to go. I've heard various things out on the listserves but the consensus seems to be that a week-long Chinese holiday in May and a LOT of dossiers for August and September of last year are slowing things down. |

The good news is that CCAI announced they had received 60 referrals from China last week! WOW. So many new mommies and daddies -- I can't wait until it's our turn! |

We put the crib together and immediately realized that setting it up in our family room was a mistake � it's WAY too big to move so now we have to disassemble it to put it in the nursery. Actually that may be just as well as it's easier to paint and decorate without as much stuff in there. We're doing the nursery in a Peter Rabbit theme so I've been collecting all sorts of Peter Rabbit stuff. Hope Rachel likes bunnies �.. |

I'm trying to stock up on stuff like diapers and bottles and wipes and all those things babies need. My Mom cuts out coupons for me--good thing, diapers are REALLY expensive! I had NO idea. I love standing in the baby stuff aisle of the grocery store looking at all the goodies. I'm not sure exactly what to buy because we won't know how big Rachel will be until we get her referral. Tough trying to decide what type of diapers to get. |

There's also a lot of discussion on the lists about what type of bottles to bring to China, whether to bring a stroller or not, what type of carrier to use. So much is dependent on how big she is (and how much we can carry!) I have a feeling those weeks between referral and travel are going to be REALLY busy getting a lot of that type of stuff done. |

So, for now, I check out all the baby stuff websites, stand in the baby stuff aisles at stores, and hope that soon I will know exactly what to buy. |
