GENERAL
OBJECTIVES:

from IRA/NCTE Standards)
Students will:
¨ read a wide range of literature to build an understanding of themselves and the cultures of the world, to acquire new information, and for personal fulfillment. Among these texts are fiction and non-fiction works. (#1)
¨ apply a wide range of strategies to comprehend, interpret, evaluate, and appreciate texts. (#3)
¨ apply their knowledge of language structure, language conventions, media techniques, figurative language, and genre to create, critique, and discuss texts. (#6)
¨ conduct research on issues and interests by generating ideas and questions, and by posing problems. They will gather, evaluate, and synthesize data from a variety of sources to communicate their discoveries in ways that suit their purpose and audience. (#7)
¨ use a variety of technological and information sources (e.g., libraries, databases, computer networks, video) to gather and synthesize information to create and communicate knowledge. (#8)
¨ use spoken, written, and visual language to accomplish their own purposes

INTRODUCTION:
We have looked at many aspects of the Holocaust. We looked at Hitler and his philosophy and how his power spread quickly. We have read two books giving us pictures of what life was like for individuals during the Holocaust. Today we are going to start a project so you can show others what you have learned. This project will also give you an opportunity to learn more about the Holocaust on your own.
SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES:

PROCEDURES
AND TEACHER’S NOTES:
Step

Give
the students the handout for the brochure project (see handout which is adapted
from Garbis)
Step
2:
Go
over the handout with them. Ask if
there are any questions about what they are to do.
Step
3:
Go
to the library and let them get started.
I will be in the library with them in case they need any help.
CLOSING:
Tell
them in order to do the kind of job that I am looking for they will have to
work on this at night at well. Remind
them that it is due Monday. Also remind
them to bring their permission slips for the field trip on Tuesday.

EXTENDERS:
We
will be in the library the entire class so a class extender will not be
needed. In case of emergency I will
read from Sky.
PROVISIONS:
I
will make sure the student can see the print in the books or on the
computer. I will have a screen magnifier
for the student and a reading magnifier so he can see more easily.
