30/01/2003 - I think Earl is finished, in terms of modelling anyway. Look in gallery for that funky alien.

23/12/2002 - A lot of people have been asking for part 2 of the turntable tutorial, so I bashed it out this afternoon and it is now up! Merry Christmas too :)

18/08/2002 - Earl is coming along nicely and there is another work in progress scene of him in the gallery you can look at. And for those not in the know, there will be a Toejam and Earl 3 for the X-Box! Hopefully it'll be just as cool as the previous incarnations.

29/07/2002 - I've kind of abondoned the ancient rome style idea for now, but I think what i am working on now is just as cool, if not more so. Take a look at the Work in Progress section of the gallery. Anyone who owned a Genesis/Megadrive all those years ago will no doubt recognise this funkified alien (incomplete as it is). Does Toejam and Earl ring any bells?

08/06/2002 - Well it has been a while! Since about December last year, I haven't had a computer at all, let alone access to the internet, so I haven't done much in the way of 3D stuff. I think the wait for a computer was well worth it though, as now I have a beast of a thing, easily handling Quake 3: Arena at MAXIMUM well....EVERYTHING! Render times for 3D scences have also picked up, but not by much, as Bryce 3D and Vue 2 don't use 3D hardware (as far as I'm aware) to render scenes, meaning it is all calculated by the CPU.
For my next render, I am planning to go for a fully fledged scene, not just a single object on a flat plane. I want it to have ancient rome style influences, with big pillars and the like. I'd also like to give the web site a make over, but that won't be for a while yet. On another note, I have visited my site on the computers at university, and not one of them has the font i've used for the title bars. It is called Tubular and you can grab it here if you don't have it. Just stick it in your c:\windows\fonts\ folder. You may have to right click and select Save Target As or Save Link As, depending on your browser.

12/10/2001 - I've finally finished rendering my first real picture in Vue. It is of a turntable, like my previous one, but it much much better. See for yourself in the gallery.

07/10/2001 - I've completed part one of a tutorial on how to create a turntable. The next parts should appear in the coming weeks.

30/09/2001 - It's been a tough past month thanks to my impeding exams next fortnight, which was compounded by the tragedy in NYC and Washington. To take my mind off these things, I've dug up the model SL-1200 I did a few months ago in Vue (a total remake of the one currently in the gallery) and decided to finish it off. In the gallery is an almost complete pic of the model in the work in progress section. I've recieved emails from people about the first model of the turntable and how they'd like me to send them a copy. Unfortunately I can't do this unless you want to use it in Bryce 3D, as Bryce can't export scenes (which is crap). If anyone out there would like me to do a tutorial on the turntable construction, drop me a line at [email protected].

12/06/2001 - I know it's been near on three months since the last update, but like it said, the final year of school in pretty important. I have put a new picture into the gallery under Another World. The picture is nothing ball-tearing, I was just seeing how well depth of field, blurred reflections and soft shadows came out in Vue D'Esprit 2.

29/03/2001 - It's been a while since the last update, but I've put 3D on the backburner until I finish my final year of school. If you can, get hold of a copy 3D World magazine issue 09. It features my Miniracer in the exhibition section (which I must say I am incredibly chuffed about).

04/02/2001 - The Toontables aren't going as planned...The cel shader I'm using insists on putting lines where I don't want them, so I have to rebuild the whole thing again. So far it's going OK, check it out yourself in the gallery.

24/01/2001 - Finally I am working on a new scene. I've discovered cel shaders and I'm going to use them to render the final image (which hopefully will be complete before the 5th of Feb. which is when I return to school). The new image will be a guy mixing away on a pair of Toontables (yes, Toontables, I made that name up myself). There is a little taster of the shader work in the gallery under Work In Progress.

14/01/2001 - Looking to get into 3D but can't afford it? Then you must check out Strata 3D! It's an absolutely free full version modelling and rendering program. Go and download it, you know you want to...

13/01/2001 - Finally a new tutorial! This one is on how to create those soft shadows in Bryce which looks far more realistic than the normal hard edged ones.

10/01/2001 - I've added that ICQ panel to the page so you can see if I am online. If you wanna chat my ICQ number is 47665456.

8/01/2001 - I've been busy getting to grips with Amapi 3D and have produced an image which is a little test of Amapi's modeling and exporting power. The picture is in the gallery under the Work In Progress section. Please take a look and give me some feedback :)

7/01/2001 - More new software! This time around it is Amapi 3D by TGS. This is a great modeling program with loads of tools for creating all sorts of things. Hopefully I will be starting some new projects soon so I can add some more stuff to my gallery.

30/12/2000 - I've started doing game reviews which you can read in the other stuff section.

12/12/2000 - Sorry again for the lack of updates...Dad just bought a Playstation® 2 a few weeks ago and I have been playing Tekken Tag Tournament non-stop (I know all King's and Armor King's throws inside out). Just yesterday I scored a copy of Poser 3 (by the same people who make Bryce, Metacreations) and it looks pretty cool. I'll have to do a lot of experimentation with it before cranking out some pictures for the website. I also got a program which is available in the downloads section. It can convert nearly all mesh files into whatever extension you require, which is great for *.lwo to *.dxf files.

17/11/2000 - Exams are next week which means I can update my page a little more often. To kick things off there is a new picture in the gallery. Take a look and tell me what you think.

22/10/2000 - Sorry there have been no updates for a while, I'm caught up in my end of year exam revision.

09/10/2000 - More Work in Progress stuff up at the gallery. Expect an animation in the next 2 or 3 weeks as well...

06/10/2000 - A new section has been added to the gallery called Work in Progress. This is where, you guessed it, stuff i'm working on is posted for all to see.

01/10/2000 - Finally all my pictures have finished rendering. They are in the gallery now so go have a look.

21/09/2000 - Another image has been added to the spinner section in the gallery.

20/09/2000 - Two new images have been added to the gallery. Another three or so should be up soon, after I find time to render them. The common theme with the new set of images is spinning.

16/09/2000 - Check out the new tutorial on using the lathe function in sPatch.

11/09/2000 - I've updated the Other Stuff section, so it now includes songs I have composed. Go give them and listen and tell me what you think. There is also a new download called PlantStudio, which is great for making plants which can be imported into Bryce.

09/09/2000 - There is a new tutorial on using sPatch to create curves which can be imported into Bryce.

06/04/2000 - There'll be no updates for awhile as I am busy on my new scene. It should be complete in about a week, so expect some new images and tutorials then.

01/09/2000 - I've made a new tutorial on lasers so go check it out.

30/08/2000 - The Space Scene tutorial is complete and ready to read.

29/08/2000 - How to create a 2D image tutorial is up. The next tutorial will be on making stars, moons, planets and basically the whole space scene.

27/08/2000 - I've added a new tutorial on how to create 3D text in Bryce. If you have any ideas for a tutorial you want me to do, send them to me and I will see what I can do. The next tutorial will be on creating a 2D image like the one I used to make the base of my mixer.

26/08/2000 - Welcome to Michael B's 3D Renderings web page. This site is designed to help you in the creation of stunningly beautiful rendered images using a combination of Bryce and sPatch. This web page is still being built and perfected so please have a little patience. Be sure to check out my gallery of images and tell me what you think.
