Mic Travers is a multi instrumentalist singer songwriter
and entertainer with musical influences across a wide range of musical forms
including traditional Celtic, medieval, classical, jazz
and blues. He has been performing original music in public venues for around
16 years and has performed at many festivals, events and innumerable Public
Houses, Clubs and Cafes around the Country.
As a Singer Songwriter his songs speak of truth and impressions of reality
melding humour, anger, angst, hope, love and sadness into melodies of light and
dark shades – the impressions of an semi nomadic urban fringe dweller and
sustainability fundamentalist. His view on life is derived from his
experiences of living in many regional towns as a child and then living in Brisbane, Melbourne,
Alice Springs and Darwin
as a family man in his own right while working in some of the most remote
parts of the country. He was a finalist in the 2004 Australian Song Writers
Association national song-writing competition. He has been a guest on ABC
Territory Radio, TOP FM, Bay FM and Radio Larrakeya.
In 2003 he self produced and released his first Solo Album Sufficient
Repetition, which received airplay on TOP FM and ABC Territory Radio. He has
performed at the 2004 and 2005 Brisbane Folk Festival as well as the 2001 and
2003 Top Half Folk Festival, the Darwin Entertainment Centre, NT Government
House and around most of the venues in Darwin
plus appearances in Katherine, Alice Springs Melbourne and many places in
between. Since relocating with his family to SE Qld in mid 2004 to work on
the development of renewable energy technologies, Mic has forged strong
inroads into the local music scene and is a staunch member of the Brisbane folk music
fraternity. He currently hosts a weekly traditional Celtic Pub Session and
participates in local song writing workshops and performance evenings while
maintaining a hectic gigging schedule heading up several outfits and
performing as solo artist.
