Zoology Club members can also get involved in the community by donating their time to the Hueston Woods Nature Center. The Nature Center is located inside Hueston Woods State Park - a 3,000 acre park used for outdoor recreation - and includes the Raptor Rehabilitation Center (RRC). The RRC cares for 60-80 injured or orphaned birds of prey each year with the goal of releasing them once they have recovered or matured.
As a volunteer, you will help feed and care for wild birds and mammals that have been injured, imprinted, or are now used in public education programs. Some of these animals include Great Horned Owls, a Bald Eagle, a Red-tailed Hawk, Black Rat Snakes, a Bobcat, and a Cougar. As you become more comfortable handling the animals, you can become part of the Center's wildlife education program which gives interactive seminars to visitors and school children.
Transportation is available Saturday and/or Sunday. The pickup point is the Shriver Center's half-circle driveway. Pickup times will be announced via the list-serv email.
