Our Club's History

The Murray Hill Speakers Club (MHSC) was founded in May 1961. The club started as a corporate club for AT&T employees. In 2001, the club opened its doors to outside members to share the renowned Toastmasters educational program with more people. As a result, our membership grew and our numbers continue to rise.

MHSC was a Select Distinguished Club in 2003, Distinguished Club two years in a row (2004 and 2005). We are very proud of our accomplishments and continue to incorporate new ideas in order to attract new members and address the needs of our current membership.

We have a Mentor Program, matching experienced club members to new ones in order to guide them through the first few speech assignments and to provide valuable advice. In the past, we've presented special seminars on a variety of subjects, including Interviewing Skills, Effective Evaluations, Interpersonal Communication, and Impromptu Speaking.

We are based in the Lucent Technologies Headquarters building in Murray Hill, New Jersey. We meet every week, on Wednesdays, from 12:10 to 1:00 p.m., in Room 6A-106.
