If you were to look up "myasthenia gravis" in the dictionary, this is what it would give you:
myasthenia gra vis a disease of faulty nerve conduction characterized by myasthenia, esp. of the face and neck
And then you'd have to look up "myasthenia" which would say:
myasthenia muscular weakness or fatigue
But what's that mean in normal language? Well, it's simple really. People with myasthenia produce a certain "bad guy" that attacks antibodies, causing the muscle weakness. It could happen anywhere, from the muscles in the eyes to the mouth or to the throat.
Myasthenia is easy enough to control, depending on the case of course. Many depend on regular medication and visits to the doctor. The important thing is to not let having myasthenia get you down. You can do whatever anyone else does, and lead as much of a fun and fulfilling life as anyone else. It's just another barrier you have to cross, so you should think of yourself as a stronger person because you have MG. Some days might be hard, and you can get down about it, but just remember that you're luckier than a lot of people out there. Think of the fact that you can afford to go to the doctor, and you have enough food to eat and clothes to wear. That should make you smile bright, just like you should! :]
