Name: Micheal-Swayne Knott

Position: Marketing Programs/Project Specialist

Company: (Large Electronics Manufacture located in Toronto canada)

Why did you choose a job/career in this field?

Experience from running numerous events as Vice President of ComSoc, Marketing Dept. lacked Financial/Analytical experience (my major) and Minor in Marketing. My new boss offered to pay for some schooling so I ended up taking a collage course in Project Mgmt and am currently studying to write my PMP (Project Management Professional) Certification test on April 1st, 2006. ( Add more letters to the back of my name, yah!)

How did you decide on your job/Career?

Had a back ground in IT after working for Bell Canada for 7 years during Uni, and I wanted to work for a smaller company. It was an easy transition but a huge learning curve. At his job I have been able to modify my job structure to span across more then it was originally designed for, in fact my boss modified the job after my first interview cause she saw the possibilities.

How did you find your job/Career?

Friend had just gotten hired as Web Designer at D-Link Networks in Toronto. Got me looking at the company. Month later marketing job came up and I applied. - Very important to have a wide network of friends to keep you informed of new jobs and to help get your resume one higher in that large pile!!!!! Having a good network is key, sure you can agree.

What suggestions could you give to those out there who would like to work for the same company or are looking to make a similar career move?

Beeee super involved at school in extra circs, it makes a huge difference. Employers know what it means when they see it on paper, and you will gain experience that you can not get from a text book, exam or a paper.

Any other suggestions?

Never stop learning, once you fall off that saddle its so hard to get back on. If you can keep learning you will be ahead of everyone else. Just because you done school does not mean you never have to write another exam, trust me mine is 4 hours and 200 questions. Can't think of any thing you want to take, community collages offer tons of language classes. Think your smart, try learning an Asian language.
