We are extremely pleased to present before you, the Borivli Mar
Gregorios Orthodox Christian Students
Movement (MGOCSM) website. For the uninitiated, MGOCSM is
an organization for the students (of age group 14- 25) of the
Indian Orthodox Church. The
Borivli MGOCSM is the students wing of St. George Orthodox
Syrian Church popularly known in the Diocese as Borivli
Parish. This Church forms one of the 47 churches which
comprise the Western Diocese, which is spread over 3 states of
India viz. Gujarat, Maharashtra & Goa. The Parish was
established in 1982 under the leadership of elders of the time
who felt the need for a congregation in the area other than
Malad Parish. Over the years, the Borivli Parish has grown and
continues to grow maintaining the rich traditions and faith of
the Church. MGOCSM,
here, was started in 1991 when a small group of committed
students came together under the leadership of Mr. Aby Samuel.
Many members of that group have now become ex-members but the
seeds sown by them have only produced fruitful results. We now
have a strength of 47 members of which about 15-20 are
active. We
meet regularly on Saturday evenings & on Sundays after the
Holy Qurbana. Saturday evenings are exclusively for Bible study.
Sundays are for discussions, debates, quizzes and a few official
matters. We
must mention specially that some of our members are active
participants in the Mission Forum (an organization involved
in humanitarian activities like lending support to street
children, helping in relief activities etc. etc.) which was
formed by the youth of the Malad Parish. We are also proud of 2
of our members, Cyril Kuriakose- The Diocesan Student
Secretary of Mumbai & Anish Varghese- The Regional
Secretary of Mumbai. We
are students with a mission. Our motto is Study, Worship &
Service. We are thankful to this wonderful platform called
MGOCSM which helps us grow as responsible Christians. We hope
you make good use of this site that we have developed to share
our joys & ideas with you. Thanks for dropping by !
