COST 17 action: Built heritage: Fire loss to historic buildings
The intention of the Action COST C17 was to address the significant physical and cultural loss of Europe’s built heritage due to the damaging effects of fire. This was achieved in a multi-disciplinary, multinational manner through the collaboration and integration of a variety of related projects. From 2004 to 2006 I was integrated in the structure of this COST action as a member of the Action’s Working Group 2 (WG 2 Available and Developing Technology).
Editorial work
An aspect of science management I really enjoy, I have participated in the edition of three books and I am currently editing STONE, a quarterly newsletter on stone decay issues
Teaching
My teaching experience in centres of higher education began in 1995, as assistant in demonstrations of different subjects within Gemmology in the Spanish Gemmological Institute. Later, I collaborate with lectures and demonstrations in the Faculty of Geological Sciences (Universidad Complutense de Madrid). Nowadays I do my bit on lecturing in the School of Geography, Archaeology and Palaeoecology (Queen's University of Belfast). Besides this I coordinated two editions of a multidisciplinary course on conservation of stone organised by the non-governmental association Restorers without Borders.
