Harold G. Moore

Lt. General Harold G. Moore (Ret.) graduated from West Point in 1945. He commanded two
infantry companies in the Korean War and was the 1st Battalion, 7th Cavalry commander in
Vietnam. He later commanded the 7th Infantry Division in Korea. A master parachutist
and Army aviator, he helped develop and launch the concept of the Air Cavalry in Vietnam.
Joseph L Galloway
Galloway served a 16-month tour as a war correspondent in Vietnam beginning in April of 1965.
Galloway, then a 24-year-old reporter, was on the ground throughout the action in Ia Drang
during November, 1965. He returned to Vietnam on three other tours in 1971, 1973 and again
in 1975 when he covered the fall of Cambodia and South Vietnam. This picture was taken in 1965.
Bruce Crandall
An Army aviator, Bruce Crandall was a Major in November, 1965. At the time, he was Commanding Officer of "A" Company, 229th Assault Helicopter Battalion, 1st Cavalry Division (Airmobile). He had command of 20 Huey helicopters. He was a pilot who would fly rescue missions even when enemy fire kept medical evacuation teams away. During his time in Vietnam, Crandall led more than 750 combat missions. He was the one who flew the lead Huey during the Ia Drang battles.
