The setting is New York City, December 1933, and revelers have gathered at a hot, exclusive night spot called the Silver Lining to enjoy gin, jazz, and the club's lovely chorus girls. Among the patrons are two Princeton Law students, Ken the classic romantic and his best friend Greg the quintessential bachelor, who've come back home to find their two childhood friends, Ruth the girl-next-door and Eve the tough-as-nails trust fund baby, performing for the crowd.Immediately, Ken and Ruth fall head over heels, while Greg and Eve are at each other's throats. So, Ken, Ruth, and their eccentric group of friends hatch a plan to get the two warring souls to fall in love.
