Miss Mexico World 2004: Yessica Ramirez Meza

Yessica Ramirez, Winner of Miss World Top Model!!!

November 22, 2004: Mexico was this evening crowned the world’s top model in a glittering ceremony that saw an array of stunning international fashions modeled by the Miss World 2004 finalists. Twenty girls had won places in the fashion show final.

As guests gathered at the Universal Resort's grand theatre in Sanya, the Miss World contestants prepared backstage for what was to become one of the most hotly contested and exciting events of Miss World 2004 so far. In the audience were Chinese guests, local dignitaries, international visitors, the Fashion Show's judging panel led by Chairman Julia Morley, as well as many of the girl's parents, here to support the contestants in the fourth of five Fast-track Miss World 2004 events.

The show kicked off with all 107 contestants taking to the stage led out by Ecuador, who dazzled in a shimmering white gown with plunging neckline. It quickly became apparent that the competition would be fierce, with all of the girls sporting stunning eveningwear, hair and make-up. After the opening parade, the twenty shortlisted contestants were asked to take to the front of the stage, as the remaining 87 waved goodbye for the rest of the night's competition.

The short listed Top 20 were:
Angola, Aruba, Belgium, Botswana, Bulgaria, Peoples Republic of China, Chinese Taipei, Czech Republic, Cyprus, Costa Rica, Georgia, Greece, India, Mexico, Poland, Puerto Rico, Russia, Spain, Trinidad & Tobago and United States of America.

Angola looked sensational in a strapless white fitted dress, adorned with multicolored sequins and a delicate diamonte arm bracelet. Aruba wore a wonderful pink and silver lace dress with matching heels, Belgium took to the stage in a black and beige sequin gown with fishtail skirt and low cut back, Botswana shone in a shimmering black and silver gown set off by elegant black high heels, Bulgaria wore an elegant pink flared skirt and a sequined bodice. Next, People's Republic of China, met by whoops of applause from the host nation audiences, in an elegant gold gown with gold fringing around the neckline, Chinese Taipei in a beautiful white and silver floor length gown decorated with silver sequin design and complimented by stunning diamond arm decoration, Czech Republic in an elegant white gown with intricate sequin paneling set off by beautiful white high heels.
Next was Cyprus, in a breathtaking strapless floor length gown, with a gold bodice top and full, trailing gold satin skirts, Costa Rica in a white sequinn strapless dress with shimmering floral motifs, white heels and diamond drop earrings, Georgia in eye catching floor length pink chiffon with silver floral designs, pink high heels and beautiful pink earrings, Greece in an elegant pink floral bodice and full pale pink satin floor length skirt, India in a cutting edge take on the traditional Indian sari, in orange, red and gold. Mexico strode out in a white plunging tassled halterneck dress, Poland wore powder and pale blue layered chiffon with diamond designed motifs, Puerto Rico was in green satin with sensational silver sparkling skirt detail, her dark hair scooped to one side, Russia shone in a bright red and gold strapless gown, with flared floor length skirt, set off beautifully by an elegant gold necklace, Spain was captivating in a backlace, full length silver gown that flared out at the base, Trinidad & Tobago in an striking white two piece creation with intricate leaf design and gathered skirts. Finally, USA took to the stage in a sparkling green floor length gown accompanied by an unusual green feather wrap. The audiences were captivated as the girls took their places on stage, with the crowd cheering while TV cameras filmed the whole spectacle.
While the judging panel began to consider their votes, Bahamas took to the stage to give an outstanding rendition of You Light Up My Life, which stunned the audiences. She wore a breathtaking blue floor length gown as she wowed the crowds, later explaining that she was particularly moved by the track after its lyrics helped her through a difficult time following a car accident. "It helped me through and reminded me of the little things that people do every day that help you get through life, whether it's a hug or a smile." She then encouraged the audiences to "give the person next to you a big smile."
The twenty short-listed contestants then paraded in their daywear, with a chic ensemble of outfits. Fashionable denim mini-skirts were very much a favourite with many of the contestants including Bulgaria, Chinese Taipei, Cyprus, Puerto Rico, Spain. Other trends on show included knee high boots from Angola, Aruba, People's Republic of China, Chinese Taipei, Mexico, Poland, Spain and USA.


While the contestants went backstage to their dressing rooms to change from their day wear, Italy took to the stage, delivering an unforgettable performance of one of her nation's favorite songs, Volare. Dressed in a dramatic white full length gown, with a shimmering trail, she encouraged the audiences to sing along, beaming throughout the performance, looking positively radiant.

After this wonderful performance, the other 87 contestants were led out to take their seats in the audience so that they could cheer on their new friends from around the world in what was clearly going to be a very tight competition. They took their places amongst the cheering audiences, waving to the crowds, keen to offer the contestants their love and support.
Next was the contestant's turn to model the Miss World 2004 beachwear collection, designed by former Miss World, Wilnelia Forsyth who took the crown for Puerto Rico in 1975. The stunning designs looked incredible on the girls, who wore a variety of eye catching colors and were clearly enjoying the show as they paraded in front of an excited crowd.

More wonderful entertainment was then provided by Barbados, in a dance number named Excess Baggage. The contestants in the audience whooped and clapped, getting up from their seats to dance with delight as Barbados emerged from a suitcase to give an electrifying dance performance that dazzled the crowds. Dressed in a stunning red tassled two-piece outfit, her expressive choreography was met with cheers from the crowds.

Next was the turn of the cocktail wear parade. Angola led the girls out in a traditional head dress and a yellow and black patterned strapless fitted cocktail dress, Aruba wore an orange two-piece creation with floating skirts and pink high boots. Belgium in a stunning layered mini dress with a layered trail and bustier top. Botswana wore a chiffon white halterneck dress, Bulgaria dazzled in a strapless orange patterned corset dress with tie detail at the back, People's Republic of China was met with cheers of delight in a pink and blue bias cut chiffon dress, Chinese Taipei wore a chiffon blue mini-dress with delicate train, Costa Rica an elegant blue knee length chiffon skirt with blue beading detail, Cyprus a fitted white dress with chiffon detail and strapless top and silver beading, Czech Republic in a sensational floral multicoloured strapless mini dress with flowing skirts trailing behind, Georgia looked divine in a satin blue and white mini-dress with black strappy high sandals
Next out, Greece wore a shimmering beige dress with intricate beading and a floor length flared skirt, India looked exceptional ion a midnight blue flared skirt and elegant patterned bodice top, Mexico wore a turquoise layered halterneck dress with matching heels, Poland looked captivating in a black and silver chiffon cocktail dress with elegant layered skirts, Puerto Rico was sensational in a multicoloured flared dress with sparkling decoration around the neckline. Russia wore a green satin cocktail dress with plunging back, Spain looked chic in a crocheted black strapless knee length dress and black sandals, Trinidad & Tobago wore a lime green and pink flowing skirt slash to the thigh, with a stunning sequin top and USA emerged in an elegant black strapless cocktail dress with a floor length gold coat.

It was time for a tough decision to be made by the judging panel who selected the final 10 contestants.
The Top 10:
Angola, Belgium, Chinese Taipei, Czech Republic, Greece, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Russia, Spain, and Trinidad & Tobago.

The final contestants then did a last catwalk run for the judging panel, which included Miss World Chairman Julia Morley, hairdresser to the stars Andrew Minnarik, Miss World international ambassador Krish Naidoo.
Crowds cheered, with screams of encouragement from the remaining Miss World contestants, to support and encourage the Fashion Show final ten. While the judges conferred and deliberated, the audiences were treated to one final performance of the night. A breathtaking performance by Antigua, winner of the Miss World Talent Show, who performed the Barbara Streisand classic hit Papa Can You Hear Me, which won her a place in the Miss World final. The audience sat in silence, totally captivated by the talents of Antigua, who shone in a stunning black and silver evening gown with matching cape.
It was now the moment that the audience and the contestants had been waiting for. The judges had made their final decision and the all-important slip of paper with the winning contestants was handed up onto the stage.

The runners-up and winner were announced in reverse order:

5th Spain

4th Russia

3rd Belgium

2nd Angola

1st Mexico (Winner)

As the audience cheered with delight the other contestants began chanting Mexico and some of the other Latin American contestants began to lead the audience in a traditional Mexican wave of appreciation. A thrilled Mexico greeted the audience, beaming with delight as the applause continued. The demand was so great that she returned to the catwalk for an encore of cheers and applause.



Mexico's win of the Worlds Top Model means she has immediately secured a place in the Miss World finals, to be held in Sanya on the 4th of December and she has gained an extra 25 bonus points.
Twenty two year old Yesica Guadalupe Ramirez Meza, comes from Sinaloa in Northern Mexico. She is a student of business administration, whilst also studying to become a teacher. It is her ambition to become an international model and run her own fashion design company. Her hobbies include reading, sport and dancing, particularly to modern pop music and salsa.

The fashion show was held at Sanya's Universal Resort Theatre. The breathtaking fashion designs were created by top designers from each of the contestant's home nations. A separate award will be given for World's Top Fashion Designer as pat of Miss World 2004. Source: MWO
