Here's my little dedication
to Canada's Queen's Own Rifles. One of the regiments of the Canadian
3rd Division, participating in the D-Day landings in Normandy and subsequent
battles in Europe. I was really pleased when Dragon released "Liam",
their World War Two Calgary Highlander. After acquiring him, and CVI
Insignia's Canadian Units in NW Europe 44'-45' set, I quickly bashed up my
own Canuck. A QOR trooper! I hope to have a squad of these guys
done sometime in the future. When other pressing matters aren't in
the way (ie, school) ;)
The
figure below is the stock Liam. I've added the Unit and rank patches
to make him an Acting Corporal.
This guy is probably the favourite out of my collection so far. Not exactly enjoyable
work, but when the shells start dropping I'm sure he'll appreciate that hole!
:)
These pictures were part
of a photo shoot the Ottawa club did in the fall of '02. It's Acting
Cpl Marcus and Staff Sergeant Liam.
In the picture on the right
you can see Liam is sporting Zeke's ammo bandolier across his chest. The
Lee Enfield ammo was close enough in size to the Garand stripper clips that
I figured it wouldn't matter if I switched them out. I like the look
and hang of that bandolier with the heavier metal ammunition (compare Liams
on the right to the one Marcus has on the left).
I guess after the brass
saw Liam's fine hole digging they thought he'd make a great fighting hole
instructor. As I acquired another Liam figure I added to my QOR ranks.
I'll probably keep doing this until I get tired of making up a QOR
squad, which basically means never. I've got plenty of CVI stuff left
:)
Thanks for viewing my Queen's
Own Rifles troops, I'll update this site as soon as their ranks thicken up
a bit.
