How to Use A Metrocard Vending Machine
MVMs are capable of handling eight languages, but only handle four at a time. English and Spanish are always installed while the other two are decided based on neighborhood from a list of six: French, Italian, Russian, Chinese, Japanese and Korean.

Unless otherwise noted or on the language screen, GO BACK and CANCEL appear on the lower right of the screen, GO BACK is white and is enclosed in a white outline, while CANCEL is the same, but in red. CANCEL is at the extreme corner and GO BACK is to it's right.

SCREEN ONE aka Home Screen:
Touch START, that's all there is here

SCREEN TWO aka Language Screen:
Four Languages: Three on the top line, one on the second, to the right. All screens, regardless of language, have the same options and buttons, except that the text is different.

SCREEN THREE:
Metrocard is in the center, SingleRide is on the right.

IF YOU TOUCH SINGLERIDE on S3:
Cash payment screen appears for $1.50. See below for more information on payment screens.

IF YOU TOUCH METROCARD on S3:
You reach the MAIN SCREEN. The large button on the left is for refilling a Metrocard, two buttons on the right, one above the other, are for purchases of new Metrocards and trading in Metrocards, respectively.

IF YOU TOUCH REFILL:
It asks you to insert your card, which the machine takes. Next screen has six buttons in two rows of three, the buttons are (from left to right, then top to bottom): $5.00, $10.00, $15.00+$1.50 bonus, $20.00+$2.00 bonus, $30.00+$3.00 bonus and other amount, we will call this the VALUE SCREEN. Based on a large amount on the card, some buttons may be disabled. This is because a card cannot exceed $100 in value, the disabled buttons will be covered with a red circle-strike like in a No Smoking sign. However, if you have a reduced fare Metrocard with less than two unlimited ride timers, you will get the CARD TYPE SCREEN (see below).

IF YOU TOUCH OTHER AMOUNT:
The KEYPAD SCREEN will appear, this is a standard numeric keypad with three buttons on the right, from top to bottom: ENTER, CLEAR and GO BACK. The GO BACK and CANCEL buttons do not appear in their normal fashion. When touching enter, you proceed to the payment type selection screen, unless your transaction is for less that $3, then it automatically selects cash. Clear clears the data entered, you must enter the cents also.

IF YOU TOUCH THE OTHER BUTTONS:
It goes directly to the payment type selection screen for that amount.

IF YOU TOUCH BUY NEW CARD ON THE MAIN SCREEN:
The CARD TYPE SCREEN appears. This screen has two large buttons side-by-side, Unlimited Ride and Pay Per Ride.

UNLIMITED RIDE SCREEN:
Displays the four unlimited cards, in four buttons, evenly arranged in a 2x2 cube: $4 1-day, $17 7-day, $63 30-day and $120 30-day Express Bus Plus. Selection leads to payment type screen. If you have an RFM, only the 7-day and 30-day cards will be available, and you will get this through the refill option. The prices for these will be halved.

PAY PER RIDE SCREEN:
Works the same as refilling, except that you are not asked to submit a card, nor is it possible for an amount to be disabled.

IF YOU TOUCH TRADE-IN CARDS ON THE MAIN SCREEN:
You are asked to insert a card, which is immediately emptied and returned, the value of your card is displayed on the next screen, which is the TRADE-IN SCREEN and contains three buttons from left to right: Yes, Issue New Card and Put on Old Card. The question is: Do you want to trade-in another card?

IF YOU TOUCH YES:
You're asked for another card, then the total value is displayed on the TRADE-IN screen, you can repeat for up to ten cards (the number of cards remaining that you can trade in is displayed below). Once you reach the 10 card/$100 limit, you can trade-in no more cards. Expired cards can also be traded in as long as they have not been expired for more than a year.

IF YOU TOUCH ISSUE NEW:
A new card is printed with the total value, and you see the receipt screen.

IF YOU TOUCH PUT ON OLD CARD:
It will then ask you to insert a card on which to place the value, which is returned with the added value as above, you will be rejected if the total would exceed $100.

PAYMENT SELECTION SCREEN:
Gives three options: Cash, ATM Card and Credit Card.
CREDIT CARD: Will ask you to insert the card, then you must touch OK. After it
verifies your card, it will print your Metrocard and give you the receipt screen.
ATM CARD: Similar to above, except you have to use the keypad built in to the
machine to enter your secret code, before touching OK.
CASH: Will ask you to insert money, will reject anything that puts you more than
$6.00 over the limit and displays how much money you have left to insert. On final         payment, gives necessary change in SBA Dollars and Quarters. Also gives the
        Receipt screen.
On all payment screens, only CANCEL is available, cancellation will not return money, but rather will FAIL the transaction (see below). This does not apply for card purchases because the card was not yet charged. After payment is completed, system will always print card and go to receipt screen.

RECEIPT SCREEN:
Yes and No. No will end everything, Yes will print a receipt and end it.
