Evil Dead
Here is the film that started my legacy of collecting horror films, Evil Dead. I bought this at a Bradlees in New Jersey. I had always wanted a horror
film of my own. There were other films there (albeit a slim choice), this one caught my eye because of the cover. It is of a woman being pulled underground
by a skeleton. So obviously this had to be the film I had to own. Well here is the summary of the film that started my journey (besides watching horror films off of T.V.)
of owning more horror films than anyone I know :)
The film opens with a group of college students (three girls, two guys) go to a log cabin that they had rented to spend a few days in. When they reach the house, one of the guys
goes to towards the house, all the while a swinging bench is hitting the house. When he reaches the house the beating stops. Kinda freaky. Well for the next
five to ten minutes nothing major happens. Until one of the girls becomes tempoarily possessed and begins to draw something unusual. Later in the film you learn
that the drawing is a sketch of the Necronomicon (Book of the Dead). Well, we are then shown them all sitting down eating dinner. Nothing unusual happens until
the basement door behind them all of the sudden blows open for no apperent reason. Well one of the guys goes down there to investigate the cause of the door opening. A few seconds pass
and the girls begin to panic. So they send our hero Ash down into the basement to make sure everything is alright. Well Ash ends up meeting up with him. They have
found various items that include: a tape-recording of a translation by the doctor that lived there of the Necronomicon and a shotgun with shells.
Well they goes upstairs. Them and the girls sit around and begin to listen to the recording. HUGE MISTAKE!! Well one of the girls begins to get all emotional over the recording.
Also as the tape plays we are shown outside shots where we see the demons being awoken. The girl that was getting emotional stands up and screams TURN IT OFF just as a tree
burst through the window. She leaves. A few minutes later the other girl ends up thinking that somebody is outside. So in all of her intelligence she goes outside
to take a look. She goes deeper into the woods. (Now you have to remember that the demons are now awake). Well the the forest comes to life and begins to get...umm...
friendly with her. She makes it back to house. She is shooken up but nobody believes the tree story. So one of the guys tries to take her to a motel. But one problem the bridge is out.
Well the two girls who aren't possessed...yet are playing a card game. By the window is the girl who was possessed. She begins to guess all of the cards correctly. Then we see that the possession has overtaken her.
She falls to the ground. One of the girls goes over to see if she is alright. The possessed girl picks up a #2 pencil and jams into the girls ankle. After a struggle, she is forced into the basement.
Well I have told you about a good portion of this movie already. Now is the time you should get a ride to either buy or rent this all-time cult-classic film!!
