This is an awesome song and an even better video. The song is based on an anti-war novel written by Dalton Trumbo called Johnny Got His Gun. It is about a kid who gets drafted into World War 1. He loses his arms, legs, face, hearing, sight, and speech. But this book can be applied to any war or battle that is fought. Because the main point of the story is to show how bad war is.
The video starts with Lars talking about how MetallicA didn't do videos and why they had to break the not doing videos thing for this song. On the tape there are two versions of the video a short and long. The long version has the band rocking out in an abandoned warehouse with clips of the Johnny Got His Gun video thrown in. The short version just has the band rocking out in the warehouse.
