Burton was always a musical person. His first instrument was the cello. He began playing the cello at the age of six. When he was sixteen, he picked up the bass guitar and took bass lessons from September 1978 to January 1980
.
  Metallica Meets Burton:
Burton was spotted by Metallica, playing bass, at the Whiskey. At that moment, Hetfield and Ulrich knew this bass prodigy had to be with them. They agreed to leave their home, L.A., to get Burton.
  Metallica Plus Burton Equals:
In the, lets say "Cliff Burton Era", Metallica produced three electrifying albums: 'Kill 'Em All', 'Ride The Lightning' and 'Master of Puppets'.
     The Unforgiven Bus Accident:
In the year of 1986, Ozzy Ozbourne invited Metallica to open for him on his "Ultimate Sin". The fans went wild for Metallica, that night Metallica was introduced to a wider range of audiences. After their opening for Ozbourne, Metallica continued on touring Europe.
After a concert in Stolkholm, Sweden on September 26, 1986, Metallica boarded their bus and went on their way to Copenhagen, Denmark. Early in the morning, the bus hit an ice patch and slid for a long 20 to 30 seconds. Burton was killed in the attempt of escaping the bus. The bus tipped onto him, and crushed his body. This was a terrible tragedy but Burton did leave the world in style and not in vain.

Speed Metal. His father played the piano at a faster tempo than normal. Newsted picked up the bass guitar but with an unsuccessful result. But a few years later he tried again when he received his first bass guitar. He then took part in a few garage bands. Newsted decided to stay with his third band: Dogz, with drummer- Kelly David-Smith, guitarists- Mark Vasquez and Kevin Horton and vocalist- Erik A.K. Dogz was changec to Flotsam & Jetsam.

Metallica Meets Newsted:
In the year of 1986, after Burtons death, Metallica obviously had to get a new bassist if they wanted to continue. And that they did. The search and auditions began. Newsted learned all of Burtons parts and some stuff of his own to audition. Newsted was choosen out of about 40 auditioners.

Metallica plus Newsted equals:
Between the years of 1986 and 2001, Metallica produced: ...And Justice For All, Metallica, Load, Reload, Garage Inc., and S&M.

For Personal reasons, reasons the public may never know, Newsted decided that Metallica and him weren't meant to be and left the band.
