| I know a new verse to the song "Clementine." It goes right after she stubs her toe and falls into the water. "Came a Ranger to her rescue with a piece of planky pine, but she sank before he reached her, so I lost my Clementine." I heard a senior Ranger sing it once at a campfire in a national park. It was so cool! You know, it's awfully hard to travel with pocket knives and flashlights and other Ranger gear. I felt a little funny showing up with nothing but my Ranger clothes. Ms. Mary said that wasn't a problem and she gave me that neat red thing you see sticking out of my pocket. She said she didn't know what to do with it when she got it and almost gave it away but then she thought maybe there was a reason for it. There was. Here I am! That red thing is really cool! It's a flashlight, key ring, compass, and whistle all in one. It was pretty noisy around here for the first few days while Ms. Mary was at work because we all took a turn blowing the whistle. Thank you, Ms. Sandi, for helping me get here. |
