Basset Hounds

Basset Hound puppy called SnoopyThis is one of the puppies we kept from our last litter, he comes from a long line of Champions and Grand Champions and we have great hopes for his future.
His name is Merribas Red Baron but we call him Snoopy, he is a lovely boy with the most gentle temperament.
Snoopy is a litter brother to the dog on the banner at the top of each page, that is Max...sometimes Max-a-Million and sometimes Mad Max...he is a real character, an absolute clown. Max also has a beautiful temperament.
Both dogs excel in bone, size and temperament and both are great movers...we should have a lot of fun with them. You can see more of our Basset Hounds here.
Basset Hounds have a very loyal and affectionate nature, but they can be extremely stubborn...they must be kept in a securely fenced yard and care must be taken that gates are not left open or your Basset will toddle off onto the scent of the milkman or next door's cat...unfortunately they don't have any roadsense and if the scent goes across the road they don't look for cars.
This Basset doesn't like rain! Basically the Basset Hound is quite a versatile fellow, he can hunt out in the paddock (doesn't catch much but sure knows where they went), he is good with children, loves watching TV, absolutely adores his family, makes a career out of sleeping and tells you every night when it's time for tea....and some of them don't like rain.
The Basset is a short legged hound of considerable substance, well balanced and full of quality. He has a noble head with a calm dignified expression (see the guy under the umbrella), a muscular neck and his shoulders arch above a porweful chest, he has more bone than any other dog of his size and he has an apple rounded bottom. He moves with a smooth free action and carries his tail up like a sabre.
Basset Hounds were originally bred to hunt small game like rabbits and hares. The scenting powers of a Basset Hound are extraordinary, second only to the Bloodhound.
