Judge Hamilton has set Nick's bail at an appropriate amount - $50,000. Mrs.
Boyle should have little choice but to call me.
Mr. Hewett's LA office has obtained a copy of the police report. Apparently
there was a tavern altercation involving a young lady. Nick, amidst the turmoil, took
a swing at one of the officers who had just arrived on the scene. Fortunately,
Hewett believes the case will not be especially difficult. One of his law clerks is
familiar with the establishment and says that it is always quite a dark and raucous
place. Perhaps, the charges can be plea bargained down to a misdemeanor with
certain conditions placed on his probation - conditions that, like the bail
stipulations, might place Mr. Boyle within my domain.
Due to the number of pressing cases on her court docket, Margaret assures
me that she will, unfortunately, have to delay the preliminary hearing date for
several weeks. Since Mr. Hewett's schedule, and that of his entire staff, is also
quite full, I am certain that he will ultimately find it necessary to ask for a
continuance or two as well. Time is a valuable commodity for us all. One does not
quickly win a heart and soul.
It seems that I am now in Maggie's debt. I am certain her payment plan will
be interesting and the collection date sooner rather than later.
