I remember when I was young, sitting on my uncle's knee in front of a raging fire, listening to my uncle tell me the ghost stories that I loved so much. He had such a natural way with words, it was like he had first hand knowledge of the events he described. When I was twelve I found out that he had.
My first supernatural experience, and my first introduction to the Legacy. Like many others I have known who have been initiated, the Legacy was my destiny. I knew that as well as I knew my name. As I grew up and became a member, the Legacy became my family, replacing those others that nature had forced upon me. It became my world. Philip, my brother; Derek, the
father I always wanted; and Alex, my sister. No, more than that. My best friend. We were a family. In a world where darkness was all around us, I felt safe with them, part of the group.
I know them all well enough to know when something is bothering any of them. That is my gift, you might say. And for days now, Derek has been acting differently. On the phone all the time, that look on his face which I know means he is planning something. Today, I found out why. He called a meeting, told us that the son of an old friend was coming to stay for a while. Philip immediately questioned him, asked him for how long. We've all had guests stay here before, but not for very long, the chances of them coming across something they shouldn't are too great. But the way Derek spoke, this man would be staying for a while. Hence, my suspicions. He is plotting something, I am certain of that. But what? I have a few days to find out, before he gets here, and all I have to go on is a name. Nicholas Boyle.
