Texas state law requires that you show proof of working on 5 shows within the state boundaries. Any other state doesn’t count. It has to have a TX state permit attached to the show, along with the senior operators' license number that you worked with. Military Installations do not count because they do not require a state permit on premise.
Next, you have to take a written exam (about 50 or so questions). Then an FBI background check and a police record check (which I had to pay for and furnish) of all previous states of residences. I had to provide an explanation of any police record activity that I had on my record. (Um...not that I had any...that would be another page altogether).
So the first show I did was in Arlington TX at the Rangers Stadium. I did this the day after I moved to the state. I also did the Polo on the Prairie 2000 show in Abilene and a few more at the Dell Diamond for the Round Rock Express Baseball team. On July 2nd 3rd and 4th 2000, I worked on the 2nd largest show in the state at FT. Hood. but since it was a Military installation, it didn't count towards my 5 show requirement. Of course I didn’t know this until after I did the show.
So I have completed the 5 shows, I have passed the exam and finished with all the background checks. I am at long last licensed in Texas.
On April 1st 2000 I put in a show in Corpus Christi for a new amphitheater opening. And on April 21st I put on my second "Polo on the Prairie" show. This is a huge party that is put on every year. It's in the middle of nowhere on a ranch in Abilene Texas where they have all day polo matches and have a huge feast. At night we put on a big fireworks show. Lots of fun. But now my job is taking me to Louisville Kentucky...The home of the worlds largest Fireworks Show...THUNDER OVER LOUISVILLE!!!!!
